Becoming a Respite Provider

What is a respite provider?  Well, a respite provider is someone who is much like a babysitter; however, a respite provider must meet certain criteria and undergo special training.  Foster Parents need a break from time to time and respite providers allow them the opportunity to do so.

Respite Provider Requirements

  • The applicant must be 18 years old
  • The applicant must authorize background check
  • The applicant must not have a history with TDFPS (CPS)
  • The applicant must accept and follow a No Physical Discipline Policy
  • Complete Respite Provider Application
  • Provide one personal letter of reference (can be obtained from an employer, co-worker, friend or family member)
  • Provide results from TB Test
  • The applicant must have dependable transportation
  • The applicant must have a valid Texas Driver's License
  • The applicant must have proof of valid auto insurance

The applicant must complete the following training requirements annually:

First-Aid, CPR, EBI (Emergency Behavior Intervention), and Psychotropic Medication training.

First-Aid, CPR, EBI and Psychotropic Medication training is held free of charge at our office at 9:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. If you would like to register for a training class, please contact:
